CHARACTER
NAME: Evellethine "Lettie" Dawnsinger
CANON: World of Warcraft OC
CANON POINT: Post arrival on Zandalar, following the defeat of the Legion.
AGE: About 108; appears to be mid-20s
BACKGROUND: An unofficial WoW timeline that covers the time and basic history/important events of Azeroth. The blood elf lore is also important.

For Lettie specifically:

  • Born in -75 as a high elf to a minor noble household, with two older sisters and an older brother. Spent large amounts of time in Silvermoon City, spent some time studying the arcane under various magisters. She proved to be a rather poor mage and did spend more time learning to sing and play various instruments. Although her people did not often travel, she left Quel'Thalas as often as she could, seeing the world beyond the borders of her eternal home and learning about the culture of the other races.
  • Lettie generally avoided fighting - which frequently happened with the neighboring trolls - and political nonsense, preferring her music and friendly company to abstract, lofty ideas. She spent time in neighboring realms and did enjoy the humans she met. It wasn't often she could leave, nor did she desire to spend much time elsewhere, as Quel'Thalas was her home. She was just curious.

  • It's important to note that the high elves were sustained by a Sunwell that was the source of magic for the elves. It led to a powerful magical addiction that did draw most of the high elves back and the site of the Sunwell is considered holy. The Lich King attempted to bring his master's remains to the Sunwell to unleash some horror on the world, in the process killing about 90% of the high elves, including the king. (This happened in year 20 - Lettie was about 95.) The invasion also destroyed the Sunwell. Lettie was home at this point, and while none of her family died, it did make her parents very protective and Lettie herself was slightly reticent for a bit.

  • Without the Sunwell, the elves went into magic withdrawals. Kael'thas Sunstrider, their prince, gathered the remaining elves and renamed them the Blood Elves in honor of their fallen people, and started a search to cure their magic addiction. They eventually joined the Horde (a group of misfits roughly bound together by necessity, fighting against the Alliance), did some planet hopping to a place known as Outland, did some terrible experiments on a being of pure light called a N'aaru, and generally suffered a lot during this time. There was a pact with a demon lord who wanted to destroy their world and it just kind of went terribly. They did get the Sunwell renewed eventually, mostly by overthrowing Kael'thas and killing the N'aaru. It ended with a new regent lord and a place in the Horde.

  • During this time, Lettie focused on helping her people. She joined the group of elves who went to Outland with Kael'thas, although she returned to Silvermoon once she realized that he was beyond hope and that his vision of helping his people was going to bring chaos to his world. Her parents, who had argued with her about her decision to go to Outlands, provided a cool welcome and she largely felt like she was never welcome in her ancestral home again. After her return, she focused more on her music again and wrote some songs about her people and their trials, however. (This took place in year 26 - she was 101.)

  • The Lich King continued to do dastardly things in the cold frozen north, so the fighting forces of Azeroth gathered together to kill him. Lettie went off to Northrend, participated in the movement to take down the Lich King, where she improved her skills as a mage (though not by much) and got to spend way too much time in the cold, missing her warm, lovely beaches.

  • There was an island discovered in year 30, and while Lettie did not participate in any of the marital missions to the continent, she did venture forth eventually, mostly to meet people and pick up a few new songs and musical instruments. (She plays a mean kazoo now.) It was a bit of a rough time for the Horde because they had to kill their warchief. Lettie tried to stay out of it as much as possible.

  • After that, she stayed home, trying to study and focusing on her music for the most part, until the Legion invaded. With that, she was pushed into helping her comrades, even though her skills were still not up for fighting. So she went off to yet a newly discovered isle, helped kill some demons, and enjoyed the beaches there. (They were not great, for the record.)

  • Shortly after the Legion was defeated, the Horde warchief went a bit crazy, burned a very important tree, and they had to break some trolls of the human capital. Lettie did not actually help with this, because she can't be quiet to save her life, but did go off to Zandalar once it was opened to the Horde. They had decent beaches, but there's been a lot of fighting.

PERSONALITY: Friendly, flirtatious, gregarious, and charming, Evellethine "Lettie" Dawnsinger is equally comfortable in groups and in one-on-one situations, in ballrooms filled with the loftiest of nobles to the taverns that teem with pirates and brigands. She likes people, luxury, laughter, and music, and is curious and inquisitive, deeply invested in learning about her companions and the world around her, and also in enjoying her life. Lettie is a bubbly, cheerful individual with an animated face and lively way of looking at the world. Very little gets her down - even seeing the destruction wrought on her people couldn't keep her down for too long.

An accomplished vocalist and talented musician, she plays a variety of instruments (lute, piano, harp, violin, kazoo, banjo, guitar, and flute), has written her own music (both lyrics and music), and will always be caught humming or singing. It's clear she takes pride in her voice and musical ability. Music is the one thing she does take seriously, dedicating time to practicing singing or learning instruments, writing music, or even listening to new music. It plays into her curiosity quite well, as she'll often ask people about their favorite songs or if they know any songs from their culture, and demand they teach her.

Lettie's not the greatest of mages. Clearly, her time is spent doing other things. She'll miss some of her casts, forget spells, not realize she's missing a reagent for a spell. She tries, but all this fighting is such hard work. Books and studying tend to bore her to tears (though she does enjoy a good romance novel.) And she doesn't actually care that much for violence. She much prefers talking to people and learning their story and does better when details are concrete, specific and relevant. No theoretical practice for her. Dates aren't things she cares about, beyond the timeline of events that affected her people. To the magistrix, life is an adventure; if something isn't fun, Lettie is very disinclined to do it, and considering that so much about magic is theoretical, it tends to get boring for her. This also applies to other people - if they aren't having fun then there's something wrong.

Despite liking people and having no problem trusting strangers with her life (often a necessity in battle), she doesn't actually trust people with her heart or with deep secrets. She wasn't extremely close to her family, and after the fall of Quel'Thalas, there was little reason for her to truly trust anyone. It's not like she needs to love someone to write decent music. She's unconcerned about this, although sometimes she can be a bit worried that she's missing out on some great secret of the universe by not loving people deeply.

POWERS/ABILITIES: Mage abilities. Also blood elf racials. (Note: Blizzard likes to change spells all the time; currently, the blood major blood elf racial is a dispell, but it was once, primarily, a silence and that tends to be what I default to.

Fire spells are what Lettie specializes in but she is not a good mage, so any destructive powers she has are somewhat limited by default to about half their strength, which we'll say could set a cardboard box on fire, or light a campfire.

INVENTORY: A golden lute, a sword, sun darter hatchling, a bound journal of songs and musicial notations, a kazoo, and a bottle of wine.
